Young Jonn Is No Longer Just The Man Behind The Hits

On Dear London, Young Jonn sounds like a man who finally got the invitation to his own party.

There is something deeply funny about Young Jonn calling an EP Dear London when the real message seems to be: Dear Everybody, I Can Do This Too!

The producer formerly known as the guy responsible for half your favourite Afrobeats records has now entered his “please respect my artistry” era, and he is not asking nicely. Dear London is a seven track banger disguised as a love letter. Released on September 25, the project arrived on the same day Young Jonn headlined London’s 12,500-capacity OVO Arena Wembley.

The smartest move here is the absence of features. No superstar cameo. No emergency verse from the group chat. Just Young Jonn, his melodies and the production instincts that made “The Wicked Producer” a household name. And thankfully, he does not suddenly start behaving like he discovered jazz last Tuesday.

Destiny opens the project with reflection before By 4 and Shege settle into the romantic chaos Young Jonn understands very well. Elumelu is pure bigboy energy, while Glass in the Air and Hold Somebody provide the softer landing. Then Ws in the Chat arrives like somebody just checked their bank account and remembered they have things to celebrate.

The EP works because Young Jonn knows the assignment. These are concise, melodic, highly replayable songs built for cars, clubs, parties, soft launches and that one situationship you promised yourself was finally over.

After Jiggy Forever and Blue Disco, this feels less like another experiment in becoming an artist and more like evidence that the experiment worked. Young Jonn spent years creating the soundtrack to everybody else’s main character moments. Now he wants his own montage.
