ZAA Nurty does not do subtle, and his new single “Dangerous,” released August 14, confirms he is done trying. The Lagos born, Denver based artist built the track around thick Afrobeats percussion and a vocal delivery that sounds like confidence with somewhere to be. It is about the exact moment attraction stops being a thought and turns into a decision, basically the song version of texting your ex at 2 a.m. and knowing better the whole time.
This is not ZAA’s first rollout rodeo. He has already built a real catalogue, including “Vitamin C,” the Ice Cream & Chocolate project, and fan favorites like “Comprende,” “Lenu,” and “LaVida Loca.” He started out with the group Nurty Boiz before going solo and signing with Cold Summer The Label, which is music industry speak for graduating from the group chat to running his own show.

The backstory matters here too. ZAA left Lagos for Denver in 2022, and instead of picking a lane between Nigerian roots and American ambition, he just built a sound that does both. He cites Fela Kuti and King Sunny Ade alongside Bob Marley as influences, which tracks. “Dangerous” pulls from that same instinct to blend home and away rather than choosing one.

He described the new era simply, saying every era demands a different version of yourself, and this one is about embracing that fully. If his last release, “With Love, ZAA,” introduced the heart, “Dangerous” hands you the aux cord and dares you to hit play at your own risk.
The rollout came with cryptic teasers and a neon soaked visual world, so this is clearly bigger than one song. ZAA Nurty is not asking for your attention. He already assumes he has it.
