Doechii Drops “BOMBS” and Revives Swamp Sessions With a Message: Hip-Hop Is Hers to Evolve

Doechii is back in her rap bag, and subtlety clearly did not make the guest list.

The Grammy-winning rapper has revived her “Swamp Sessions” series with “BOMBS,” a short, high-octane release that puts her razor-sharp bars and fearless creative energy back in the spotlight. The self-directed music video matches the track’s intensity, reminding fans that Doechii is as intentional behind the camera as she is behind the mic.

For longtime fans, the return is particularly exciting. The Swamp Sessions helped build anticipation for her 2024 mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal, with tracks including “Nissan Altima” and “Catfish” eventually making the project. That mixtape went on to win Best Rap Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards, cementing Doechii’s place among hip-hop’s most compelling voices.

But “BOMBS” arrives with more than bars. In a handwritten letter shared alongside the release, Doechii revealed a renewed commitment to hip-hop’s roots and to putting Black womanhood at the centre of both rap and pop. She also spoke about becoming the dark-skinned icon she wished she had seen growing up.

That vision makes this return feel bigger than a quick freestyle. Doechii is claiming the freedom to experiment, evolve and take up space without shrinking herself to fit the industry’s expectations.

Consider the warning delivered. The Swamp Queen is back, and she is playing by her own rules.
