Fireboy DML has entered his villain-to-hero era, and the soundtrack is anything but predictable. With ZUKO!, his fifth studio album, the Nigerian singer trades the familiar for the cinematic, serving 13 tracks that explore faith, desire, resilience and the beautiful chaos of becoming.
Released on October 16 via YBNL Nation and EMPIRE, the project follows 2024’s Adedamola and takes its name from Prince Zuko, the Avatar: The Last Airbender character whose journey from exile to self-discovery made him an unlikely fan favourite. If the reference is intentional storytelling, Fireboy might be telling us that finding yourself sometimes requires a little fire.

The album opens with “DEAR FATHER,” featuring Judah Earl, before switching gears on “BY FIRE!” and “CLAAT!” with Jamaican dancehall star Masicka. “GODDESS,” featuring Lojay, brings the romance, while “IMALI” recruits South African talents JAZZWRLD and Thukuthela for a 3-step-inspired, dance-floor-ready moment.
That range is the real plot twist. Fireboy moves between Afropop, dancehall, South African electronic influences and silky R&B without abandoning the expressive vocals that made him a household name. The closing track, “FIGHTING,” circles back to perseverance and the importance of loved ones.

With ZUKO!, Fireboy is not simply changing his sound. He is expanding his universe. And frankly, we are seated for the character development.
