Nigerian singer-songwriter FOLA is back with 9, a 14-track sophomore album that brings together Afrobeats heavyweights, football ambition, and a growing artist determined to turn his breakout moment into a lasting career.
Released on October 9 through Dangbana Republik and EMPIRE, 9 follows his debut album, Catharsis, which surpassed 100 million streams and topped Nigeria’s Official Top 100 Albums chart. If the first album introduced FOLA’s emotional world, this next chapter looks ready to expand his territory.

The title is no random number pulled from a jersey. In football, the number nine belongs to the striker, the player expected to deliver when the pressure is on. FOLA has adopted that symbolism for himself, describing his role as the artist people call when they need a hit. No pressure, then.
The album’s guest list reads like an Afrobeats group chat with excellent connections. Davido joins him on “2am in toronto,” Ayra Starr appears on “treat u right,” BNXN features on “my type,” and Darkoo lends her voice to “hold u down.” Bella Shmurda and Zlatan team up on the closing track, “it’s over,” bringing the project to a suitably star-powered finish.
There is also room for nostalgia. “crime” reworks the spirit of 2Baba’s 2006 classic “If Love Is a Crime,” connecting a new generation of listeners to a familiar piece of Nigerian music history.
But 9 is more than a roll call of celebrity features. With 14 tracks spanning established singles and new material, FOLA is building on the momentum of Catharsis while making a bigger statement about his ambitions.

The verdict? The striker has the ball. Now comes the part where he proves he can keep scoring.
