Afrobeats moves fast. New stars arrive every Friday, trends expire by Monday, and the internet has the attention span of a TikTok scroll. Yet somehow, Reekado Banks has returned with Worthy Challenger and made a compelling case for something that never goes out of style. Good music.
The five track EP is short enough to finish before your ride hailing driver finds your destination, but packed tightly enough to demand a replay. From the infectious bounce of “Samankwe” to the earworm energy of “She Is Mine” and the clever swagger of “Mathematician,” Reekado leans into what made fans fall for him in the first place. Smooth melodies, sticky hooks and songwriting that never tries too hard.
What makes Worthy Challenger interesting is not that it is chasing today’s Afrobeats formula. It isn’t. Instead, Reekado doubles down on his strengths, blending romance, confidence and vulnerability across a project that feels refreshingly uncluttered. The closing track, “Nobody,” featuring Libianca, adds emotional depth without disrupting the EP’s momentum.

The title feels intentional. In an industry obsessed with asking who is next, Reekado is asking a different question. Have we forgotten who has been consistently delivering all along?
Worthy Challenger is less of a comeback and more of a reminder. Reekado Banks never really left the conversation. We just got distracted. Now he is back with five tracks, zero filler and enough replay value to make fans reconsider where he belongs in today’s Afrobeats pecking order.
