When Grime Meets Gbedu! Skepta & Asake’s Collaboration Is the Cross-Ocean Knockout We Needed

UK’s grime king links with Nigeria’s Afrobeats phenom for a sound-clash built to break borders and playlists.

UK-Nigerian revolutionary Skepta just flicked the match. In a viral post on X dated October 26 2025 he teased his upcoming track with Afrobeats star Asake writing “Big Smoke pelu Big Money @asakemusik”. The Yoruba “pelu” translates to “and”, so the caption more or less reads “Big Smoke and Big Money”.

Why this collaboration matters? First, Skepta has been steadily fusing grime with global currents since his early days. Asake meanwhile redefined Nigerian streets-pop with his fusion of Fuji, Afrobeats and swagger. Together they aren’t just linking up, they’re loading a cultural cannon.

The teased hourglass emoji in the post got fans racing. It hinted at imminent release and triggered thousands of comments and reshared posts across Africa, Europe and beyond. We still don’t have a title or drop date, but the social-media ripple is already tidal.

When two heavyweights decide to merge their universes the result isn’t just another song. It’s a moment. It’s a bridge. And if the past is any indicator we’re almost at that drop. New age playlists better clear space for this.
