OBO at the Table: Davido Becomes a Grammy Voting Member

Major tea, Davido scored himself a seat at the Voting Table of the Recording Academy (aka the folks who run the Grammys). On September 23, the Academy officially inducted him as a voting member, which means our OBO now helps decide who gets nominated and who wins.

This isn’t just a flex, it’s a power move with ripples. Davido isn’t just a hit maker (we all know Fall, IF, Timeless), but now he’s influencing how culture is rewarded and canonized on a global stage.

Let’s talk timing! The first round of voting for the 2026 Grammys opens on October 3, with nominations dropping November 7 and the big show slated for February 1. Davido’s voice will now echo alongside global heavyweights; Offset, Jessie Reyez, Ravyn Lenae, and more, in the conversation about what makes “award worthy” music.

He’s already had Grammy nods before: In 2024 he got up for Best African Music Performance (for “Unavailable” ft. Musa Keys) and Best Global Music Album (for Timeless). Now he moves from nominee to decision maker.

For one, it signals that Afrobeats is no longer just “exported culture”, it’s being embedded in the machinery of global recognition. Davido now represents Africa not just on stage, but in the boardroom of global music politics.
