Ravyn Lenae is entering her main character era with zero interest in staying inside the R&B box.
The Chicago born singer-songwriter has officially announced her third studio album Blue Island, arriving August 7, alongside a hypnotic new single titled “Handle.” And if the internet reactions are anything to go by, the girls, the gays, and the emotionally unavailable are already seated.
For fans who discovered Ravyn through the viral success of “Love Me Not,” this new chapter feels like watching an indie darling fully evolve into a genre-bending pop disruptor. “Handle” trades soft soul textures for glossy guitars, dramatic percussion, and a moody alternative edge that sounds like late-night feelings wrapped in expensive production.

Even more interesting is how intentional this evolution feels. Ravyn described Blue Island as a project about freedom and self-definition, explaining that she wants to challenge expectations around what Black music, R&B, and pop are supposed to sound like.
The album is executive-produced by Grammy-winning producer Dahi, the creative force behind her acclaimed 2024 album Bird’s Eye. The project will also include previously released tracks “Bobby” and “Reputation” featuring Dominic Fike.
Online, fans are already praising the sonic direction, with listeners on Reddit calling the new era “rock,” “fresh,” and “exactly where Ravyn should be headed.” At a time when music feels increasingly algorithmic, Ravyn Lenae is choosing experimentation over predictability. That alone makes Blue Island one of the most intriguing releases on the horizon.
